My Halloween viewing essentials

It's that time of year when I like to close the shutters, cosy up under a blanket and flick the remote control on my candles.  No seriously, I can't do naked flames as I've fallen asleep far too many times with a lit flame that i'm officially listed as a fire hazard.   With the nights drawing in here's a list of my essential Halloween viewing to help me get my spook on.

1. Lost Boys
All things vampire with none of that sparkling malarkey! Kiefer, the two Corey's and Jason Patric in a leather jacket and jeans oh my.  Oh how I wanted to be Star....  Order yourself a chow mein  ("They're only noodles Michael" ) and join the coolest gang of blood suckers as they try to recruit more members.

2. Practical Magic
"There's a little witch in all of us" and apparently she's capable of getting away with murder.  Mostly love the Aunts and the Owens house.  Mix up a batch of Midnight margaritas to whet your whistle whilst you watch.

3. Bell, Book and Candle
This is an old 50's movie with Kim Novak being the 'modern witch' who puts a spell on James Stewart.  He's a bit stiff for cool cat Kim to me but I do love the cinematography of an old movie.  I love that her familiar is called Pyewacket - such a great name and right up there with Bedknobs and Broomsticks Cosmic Creepers.  You just don't get pets names like that anymore.

4. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
I've always been a BTVS fan and love the humour mixed with creepy/scary storylines.   Who am I kidding I loved Angel.  If you have never watched an episode I strongly recommend Hush.  It perfectly captures the creepiness of The Gentleman with the wit of the Scoobies.

5. Beetlejuice
You could have any Tim Burton movie really.  This has become a cult movie  and Michael Keaton's main character disgusts and entertains me in equal measure.  Why not throw a dinner party before the viewing and see who is the first to break out into Day O Daaaaayyyo.

6. Death Becomes Her
The lengths some people will go to, to stay looking young.  Sit down Bruce, Meryl and Goldie have got this and give us a proper bitch fight that doesn't just involve hair pulling.

7. The Craft
Another fave and I love the soundtrack too.  It's mean girls for Wiccans.  "We are the weirdos, Mr"

8. The Covenant
What Lost Boys did for vampires The Covenant does for Warlocks . Is that what they are?  Descendents of Salem, who are bit of eye candy. One to watch with the girls.

9. Hocus Pocus
Oh come on it's a cheese fest but the Sanderson sisters have become a bit of a classic.  Watch with the whole family as the cheesy halloween jokes run amuck amuck amuck and you try to remember any episode of Eerie Indiana.  Booooooooooooooooook.

10. Witches of Eastwick/Eastwick
That ol' devil Jack Nicholson that's why.   I also loved the TV show Eastwick which had another favourite Jack - Huston.  They always cancel shows just as they are getting good dammit.

You may notice the lack of Horror.  This is mainly because I'm not a fan as they start out really good but in my opinion always have a crappy ending like they got bored or couldn't be bothered.

What Halloween movies would make your must see list?
