Does it matter that people want to be You tube Famous?
Someone once told me - If you want to know how to do anything - its on You tube. They are right, whatever you are looking for you are bound to find it.
I've watched with interest as this explosion of young vloggers have grown from chit chat and shopping hauls to product launches and book tours. I think its a very exciting time and I can see how people can be attracted to it as a job.
A few people have made videos on the question they get asked the most - how do you become famous? But I was a little disappointed at some of the responses. Nearly all gave the advice that you have to be passionate about whatever it is, as this comes across best on camera. Sound advice. However, telling people to not do You tube if you only want to get famous is a bit hypocritical.
I've no doubt that no one could have predicted quite how You tube would take off but why may I ask did you film yourself talking to your camera in your bedroom and then upload it publicly if not to get attention? If you are an established Tuber with thousands or millions of subscribers why does it matter if people are using it in order to get famous?
There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who makes it big on you tube. I watch people who produce interesting well researched and edited videos who only have a thousand or so subscriptions whilst others can film themselves going to the supermarket and have millions.
What I love about this platform is that people can (within certain guidelines) upload anything and I hate the thought of people being discouraged. I cant wait to see what the next wave of You tube stars produce and I say go for it. Just bare in mind that there are different levels of fame and it could be an accidental viral video giving you fifteen minutes of fame rather than being signed to a management company and being offered a book deal.
